At a time when politics is increasingly driven by labels, there's one label any public servant should be proud to wear:
"Hard working."
I may not be the flashiest politician in Salem, but I have always been committed to rolling up my sleeves and doing the best possible job for the people of Oregon. That means long nights studying budget numbers and early mornings preparing for committee hearings, but all for a worthy purpose: finding real solutions for our schools, our health care system, and our economy.
Last session, as one of the Senate's leading budget writers, I helped restore funding to Head Start and successfully fought to improve school funding for K-12, community colleges, and higher education. I also stopped double-digit increases in university tuition, increased funding for student assistance, and gained approval for the most ambitious capital improvement program in state history.
Other noteworthy bills I helped pass in 2005 include:
In fighting for these priorities, it has been my honor to represent the residents of District 19 (Lake Oswego, SW Portland, Tualatin, West Linn, Dunthorpe, Durham and Rivergrove), and I will continue to work hard to pass meaningful legislation that helps improve the lives of all Oregonians.
Thank you for your support,

Richard Devlin
